How to Prevent Fogging on Airsoft Goggles

Whether you’re new to airsoft or a seasoned player, we have all been frustrated with foggy airsoft goggles or face masks. Over the years I’ve tried many different solutions to remedy this problem. I’m going to share with you what I did to become completely fog free!

I’ll also save you some time and money by telling you what didn’t work. At the bottom of this article there will be links to some of my favorite airsoft goggle and mask setups.

It’s not the Airsoft Goggles

Yep you heard that right! If your airsoft goggles or mask keeps fogging up, don’t blame them – they’re innocent. Trust me, I’ve owned at least 20 different pairs of goggles and masks. All of them ranging from $5 – $85. I’ve even bought different brands of airsoft goggle anti-fog spray. I won’t get into all the chemistry on how they fog. Most of us cover not just our eyes, but our mouths and nose as well. Usually with some bandanna, cloth, or plastic face mask. Those are all things that cause your airsoft goggles to fog. Airsoft requires lots of moving, which naturally makes you breathe faster, thus blowing warm air into your airsoft goggles/mask.

No matter how expensive your airsoft goggles or mask is, or how much anti-fog spray you put on – it won’t help. I eventually got sick and tired of fog ruining my airsoft experience, so I bought mesh goggles. They had decreased visibility, since you’re looking through little holes. But overall I liked them better than fog, or so I thought. The first time I got hit in the eye while wearing my mesh goggles wasn’t good. The strong metal mesh goggles shattered the .30 gram BB on impact and I got tiny plastic shards in my eye. Needless to say, I don’t recommend mesh goggles.

The Secret is in the Airsoft Face Mask

I may not be a fan of mesh airsoft goggles, but I am a huge fan of mesh airsoft face masks! For a matter of fact, a mesh airsoft face mask is the key eliminating fog in your goggles. There are 3 main parts on your face you want to protect besides your eyes. Those are your mouth/teeth, ears and nose. I have not come across any airsoft face mask that provides more ventilation than mesh. From my experience a nice metal mesh airsoft face mask will eliminate almost all fog in your goggles. There are different types of metal mesh airsoft face masks. Some with lots of coverage, and some with minimal. I’ve found one that works amazing with my airsoft goggles and it protects all 3 major areas on the head – mouth, nose and ears.

This airsoft face mask provides so much ventilation, it’s almost like you’re not wearing one. It also fits nicely with most stand alone airsoft goggles. Another bonus is that it fits nicely while wearing a baseball cap backwards. If you’re the type of player who likes to wear a helmet, I’d recommend this smaller mesh airsoft face mask. It will fit nicely with an standard airsoft Tactical Helmet.

Easy Solution to Prevent Airsoft Goggles from Fogging

Buy a metal mesh airsoft face mask! That’s all it takes. As long as you have an open airflow design like what metal mesh gives you, your airsoft goggles shouldn’t fog. Having 4 or 5 “air vents” in a airsoft face mask simply isn’t enough. Welcome to a whole new ‘fog-less’ world of airsoft – enjoy!
