Best Way to Cover Orange Tip on Airsoft Guns

Orange Tip Airsoft Gun

When anyone gets a new airsoft gun, covering the orange tip is likely the first thing you’ll want to do. These bright orange tips can easily give away your position if not covered. I’ll share with you what works best, and what doesn’t work.

Plasti Dip

Orange Tip, Meet Plasti Dip!

Plasti Dip is by far the best way to cover up the orange tip on any airsoft gun. Plasti Dip is a multi-purpose rubber coating. It protects coated items against moisture, corrosion and acids. Best of all, it’s easy to remove if you need to show the orange tip again. Plasti Dip was originally made for cars, so it’s durability is amazing. You apply it the same way you would with any spray paint. I personally use Plasti Dip to cover the orange tips on all my airsoft guns.

Extra Tip: Use blue painters tape to mask off parts you don’t want Plasti Dipped!

How NOT to Cover Your Orange Tip

First, if you’re like most people you have a cluttered utility drawer with electric tape. Naturally everyone tries this first only to be disappointed. Black electric tape won’t stick well. It also only covers the sides of the orange tip and not the front. Needless to say, it gets very annoying. Save yourself the pain and go right to Plasti Dip.

Second, is black spray paint. Alright, spray paint kind of works, but not long term. I used to spray paint my orange tips, but it would always scratch off over time. I’ve tried different brands all at different price ranges too. My biggest problem with spray paint is removing it when I need to. Most airsoft games are played on private property where you make the rules. However, if you plan to play on public fields they might require an orange tip. I had to take a knife and scrape all the black paint off before I was allowed to play. I ended up damaging the orange tip, and wasted tons of time.

Removable Spray Paint

Plasti Dip is essentially removable spray paint. Who ever thought you could spray on a removable rubber coating? Overall Plasti Dip will withstand normal wear and tear much better than spray paint. Best of all, if you decide to check out a public field – just peel it off! If you really want to get creative, you can buy different colors and Plasti Dip your whole gun! I’ve seen some pretty cool scopes, magazines and receivers Plasti dipped.
